Kwangwon Lee, Ph.D.
Director of the Rutgers–Camden U-RISE program
Professor, Department of Biology
kwangwon.lee@rutgers.edu
Dr. Lee studies the genetic and molecular mechanisms and mathematical modeling of 24-hr biological rhythms, also called circadian rhythms. Using eukaryotic model organisms, his lab studies the mechanisms of circadian clocks and their roles in fitness. Dr. Lee is the founder of the MARC U-STAR program at RUC, which was transitioned into U-RISE program, and is also serving as the Director of Undergraduate Biology program, and Institute of Empowering Equitable Education in STEM, E3. You can see his research HERE.
Nathan Fried Ph.D.
Associate Director & Program Coordinator of the Rutgers–Camden U-RISE program
Associate Teaching Professor, Department of Biology
nathan.fried@rutgers.edu
Dr. Fried uses cutting-edge neuroscience techniques, such as animal behavior, optogenetics, calcium imaging, and machine learning to study the molecular mechanisms and neuronal circuitry behind the intersection of chronic pain and sleep in drosophila and rodents. He is also a Discipline-Based Education Researcher (DBER) studying ways to help students from low income backgrounds become successful scientists. You can see his research HERE.
Mentors
If there are faculty at Rutgers–Camden or the University of Pennsylvania that the student wishes to conduct biomedical research with, students should let the Rutgers–Camden MARC leadership know so the faculty can be invited to join this list.
